Living in Nijmegen

Nijmegen is considered the oldest city in the Netherlands. Its centre lies high on a push moraine of sand and gravel along the river Waal. Such firm, dry ground is good for foundations.

Lower down along the river there is more clay. North of the Waal, the new district of Nijmegen-Noord (De Waalsprong) has been built in recent years.
